Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taha Numan Yıkılmaz emphasized that prostate cancer occurs in the prostate gland, saying, “Cancer forms when the cells in the prostate gland grow abnormally. It is the 4th leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore, it should not be neglected.”

Multiparametric MRI is important for early diagnosis of prostate cancer
Highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, Urology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taha Numan Yıkılmaz said, “Prostate cancer is a slow and insidious cancer type. It is difficult to detect in the early stage. If the cancer is benign, it does not spread to other organs, but if it is malignant, it can spread to other organs. Early-stage diagnosis is therefore vital. We recommend men, especially those with a family history of cancer, to have regular screenings for prostate cancer.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Numan Yıkılmaz mentioned the methods used for diagnosing prostate cancer, stating that Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) levels in the blood are checked. He added that if PSA levels are high, cancer may be suspected. “PSA levels alone may not be sufficient. It can be supported by a physical examination. In addition, we diagnose using ultrasound and Multiparametric MRI in our hospital.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yıkılmaz emphasized the importance of Multiparametric MRI for early diagnosis, stating that it is the most advanced method used in prostate cancer diagnosis and allows for early detection. With Multiparametric MRI, suspicious lesions can be directly identified, and biopsy can be taken directly from these lesions (fusion biopsy) to achieve definitive results. He added that this is extremely important for prostate cancer.

“Do Not Overlook the Symptoms of Prostate Cancer!”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taha Numan Yıkılmaz pointed out that despite the insidious progression of prostate cancer, observing certain symptoms can contribute to early detection. He listed symptoms such as frequent nighttime urination, burning or pain during urination, inability to urinate, blood in urine or semen. He noted that these may also be caused by other conditions, and since prostate cancer can sometimes progress without any symptoms, it is important for men to undergo regular screenings and seek guidance from a urology specialist.“`
