Making a statement on World Kidney Day, Private Egekent Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Bilge highlighted that kidney disease is a common condition both in our country and worldwide. He noted that 1 in 6 people in Turkey has kidney disease and almost 1 in 20 has advanced-stage kidney disease, drawing attention to the magnitude of the rate and warning the public to pay attention to kidney health.
“Do not overlook the symptoms of kidney disease”
Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Bilge emphasized that the symptoms of kidney disease should not be ignored; if you feel abnormally fatigued, experience nausea and vomiting, frequent urination, blood in urine, insomnia, changes in taste, swelling in hands, feet, or face, or dry skin and rashes, you should consult a doctor. He stressed the importance of rapid intervention based on symptoms, warning that otherwise the disease may progress and result in kidney failure.

He reminded that kidney disease is often the result of many illnesses, especially the uncontrolled progression of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Assoc. Dr. Bilge said, “It is important to control existing conditions to prevent the formation and progression of kidney disease. For this purpose, adequate fluid intake should be ensured, the use of painkillers and medications should be limited unless necessary, and regular monitoring of the disease should be maintained. As in everything else, exercise is very important for kidney health. Regular exercise should be performed, nutrition should be balanced, and salt intake should be controlled.
