Infertility has become a more common condition today. Focusing on advances in infertility treatment for couples dreaming of having children, Denizli Private Egekent Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Op. Dr. Mehmet Gencer provided information about infertility and treatment methods.

Op. Dr. Mehmet Gencer emphasized that infertility, commonly known as childlessness, can be discussed when a couple fails to conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse. He stated that infertility can originate from both the woman and the man. He explained that they first identify the source of the problem in patients and then start treatment: “It is more appropriate for couples to come together for treatment. This helps understand where the problem originates. Couples are evaluated through various tests. For men, a physical examination is performed and hormones are checked. After a 3–5 day period of sexual abstinence, sperm count is analyzed for diagnosis. For women, a gynecological examination is conducted, menstrual cycle is assessed, and a hysterosalpingography is performed to reach a diagnosis. Based on this information, the necessary treatment is initiated.”

There are many factors causing infertility in women and men

Highlighting the multiple factors affecting infertility in both women and men, Op. Dr. Mehmet Gencer noted that diseases and body conditions can trigger infertility. Listing the causes of infertility in women, Op. Dr. Gencer said: “Factors such as irregular menstruation, ovulation problems, fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome, blocked fallopian tubes, being overweight, and thyroid problems can all lead to infertility.”

Regarding male infertility factors, Op.
