On the occasion of Brain Tumor Awareness Day on June 8, Özel Egekent Hospital’s Neurosurgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Memduh Kerman emphasized that brain tumors have become one of the common diseases today.

Assoc. Dr. Memduh Kerman stated that excessive exposure to electromagnetic fields can damage the brain barrier and lead to brain tumors, and advised avoiding prolonged mobile phone use. He also noted that familial predisposition, aging, head trauma, and metastasis of certain cancer cells to the brain are additional factors that may cause the disease.

Waking up with morning headaches could be a sign of a tumor

Providing information on the symptoms of brain tumors, Assoc. Dr. Memduh Kerman mentioned that waking up with a headache and nausea in the morning could indicate a tumor. He added, “Indicators of a brain tumor include speech disorders, as tumors near speech centers can cause difficulty in speaking. Similarly, visual and hearing impairments may be observed. Additionally, weakness in the arms and legs, loss of balance, and personality changes in cases of frontal lobe tumors may occur.”

Assoc. Dr. Kerman stated that when necessary, surgical procedures can be performed to remove the tumor, and they have carried out many such operations. He emphasized that brain tumors are treatable and advised individuals who notice one or more of these symptoms in themselves to consult a specialist immediately.
