With the arrival of summer, rising temperatures also bring along various health issues. Denizli Private Egekent Hospital Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. İsmet Çerçi shared important information about nosebleeds, which are more common during this period.
Hot Weather and Air Conditioning Can Trigger Nosebleeds
Op. Dr. Çerçi stated that dryness and cracking of the nasal mucosa during summer can lead to bleeding; he emphasized that the use of air conditioning, excessive sun exposure, and insufficient fluid intake increase the sensitivity of blood vessels inside the nose. This situation raises the risk of nosebleeds.
Hypertension Patients Should Be More Careful
Pointing out that nosebleeds are more common in patients with hypertension, Op. Dr. Çerçi said, “High blood pressure can put pressure on the capillaries in the nose. Therefore, it is important for hypertensive patients to take symptoms seriously during the summer.”
If the Bleeding Lasts Longer Than 20 Minutes, Be Careful!
Op. Dr. Çerçi also listed what should be done during a nosebleed:
The person should lean their head slightly forward
Pinch the nostrils with two fingers for 5-10 minutes
Cold compress can be applied
If the bleeding lasts longer than 20 minutes, a healthcare facility must be consulted
Çerçi also noted that children and the elderly are more sensitive in this regard, saying, “In these age groups, nosebleeds can lead to more serious consequences. Families need to be cautious.”
