Diabetes That Is Not Controlled Invites Severe Health Complications

Diabetes, a disease commonly seen today, can lead to numerous other health problems. Speaking on this subject, Internal Medicine Specialist at Özel Egekent Hospital, Dr. Ahmet Bilge, made striking statements.

Highlighting that diabetes, commonly known as sugar disease, is an important condition that should not be ignored, Dr. Bilge said, “Diabetes refers to the condition where sugar, which should be used by cells for energy, remains high in the blood instead of being absorbed by cells. There is no cure that completely eliminates diabetes, but it is a chronic disease that must be kept under control. If not managed, it can have severe consequences for patients. Even with medication, uncontrolled diabetes can lead to numerous complications affecting a patient’s life and quality of living. The most serious include cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, blindness, and leg amputation.”

“Do Not Ignore the Symptoms of Diabetes”

Emphasizing the importance of monitoring symptoms and adhering to treatment for intervention and prevention, Dr. Bilge stated, “In diabetes, fatigue is common, vision may become blurry, there may be frequent urination, excessive thirst, irritability, and mood changes. Wounds heal slowly. Tingling and numbness in the hands and feet can be a symptom of diabetes. Skin dryness and itching may also occur.”
