As frequent warnings have been issued by experts about experiencing one of the hottest summers, another warning came from Denizli Private Egekent Hospital Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Alperen Emre Akgün.
Highlighting the health problems that may arise due to excessive heat, Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Alperen Emre Akgün warned that heat can trigger rhythm disorders. He stated that increased temperatures can cause loss of fluids, electrolytes, and minerals in the body due to sweating, which can lead to conditions ranging from simple palpitations in heart patients to life-threatening rhythm disorders.
Pay attention to symptoms of rhythm disorders
Emphasizing the importance of observing symptoms in rhythm disorders, Assoc. Dr. Alperen Emre Akgün said, “If you experience one or more of the following—feeling the heart stop, heart beating as if it will jump out, faintness, a sensation of emptiness inside, or dizziness—you may be experiencing a rhythm disorder and should see a cardiology specialist as soon as possible.”
Take precautions against heat for your heart health
Addressing measures to protect heart health as temperatures rise, Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Alperen Emre Akgün advised, “During these hot days, avoid going outside between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., consume around 1.5–2 liters of fluids daily, wear loose and cotton clothing, avoid heavy meals, refrain from alcohol and sugary drinks, and do not neglect blood pressure measurements and routine heart check-ups.”
