Dermatology Specialist Dr. Osman Aydın from Denizli Özel Egekent Hospital stated that during the winter season, patients with skin problems should use moisturizers, and if the skin is very dry and cracked, they should seek specialist support.
Speaking about the negative effects of winter on the skin, Dr. Osman Aydın said: “Cold and dry winter months affect all skin types. Our skin loses moisture due to dry air during cold winter days. If your skin tends to dry out, you should take short and warm showers instead of long and hot ones. Hot showers damage the skin’s oil layer and cause dryness. Throughout the winter, you should use an oil-free moisturizer containing glycerin. If your skin is very dry and cracked, ointments or balm-type moisturizers should be preferred instead of creams or lotions.”
**“Patients should moisturize their skin”**
Highlighting the importance of moisturizing, Dr. Osman Aydın said: “A lack of moisture in the skin structure accelerates skin problems. Conditions such as eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, cold-induced urticaria, cold-related dry itching, and psoriasis flare up due to dryness, leading to an increase in these diseases. Individuals with such conditions should moisturize their skin frequently, especially during the winter months.”
