Psychologist Işıl BİRTÜRK from Denizli Özel Egekent Hospital provided education to pregnant patients on Correct Breastfeeding, the Effects of Breastfeeding on Mental Health, and the Benefits of Breastfeeding for Mothers and Babies for the Breastfeeding Week from October 1-7.
On Friday, October 6, for Breastfeeding Week from October 1-7, Psychologist Işıl BİRTÜRK gave breastfeeding education to pregnant women at Denizli Özel Egekent Hospital, addressing the effects of breastfeeding on mental health and its benefits for both mother and baby.
Breast milk has miraculous qualities for babies and is the best nutrition, providing all the nutrients a baby needs on its own for the first 6 months. Breast milk and the first yellow milk after birth are very important for the baby because they protect the baby from diseases and act as the baby’s first vaccine. Breastfeeding facilitates the establishment of a close, loving relationship between mother and baby, which emotionally satisfies the mother. Close contact after birth helps develop this relationship. Stating that the act of breastfeeding is closely related to emotional bonding and feeling secure, Psychologist Işıl BİRTÜRK from Denizli Özel Egekent Hospital emphasized that the baby’s vital need for trust should be met whenever the baby desires.
Psychologist Işıl BİRTÜRK said, “The oxytocin released during breastfeeding also reduces the mother’s anxiety and stress levels and helps develop maternal sensitivity. It is also suggested that oxytocin positively contributes to the mother’s ability to understand and recognize her baby’s cues.”
Emphasizing that being in contact with your baby, making eye contact, and touching the baby during breastfeeding positively affects the mother’s psychology, Psychologist Işıl BİRTÜRK stated that breastfeeding should not be seen solely as an action to feed the baby, but is also important for both the baby and mother to feel better and happier.
