Dr. Ramazan Kenan Arıcan, Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist at Denizli Özel Egekent Hospital, recommends mask-wearing, distancing, and hygiene against the increasing infectious diseases in recent days.

Dr. Ramazan Kenan Arıcan advises that antibiotics should not be used unnecessarily and, when needed, must be taken at the proper dose and for the required duration, depending on the patient’s health condition.

Dr. Ramazan Kenan Arıcan stated: “Flu is transmitted when healthy individuals inhale infected droplets released into the air by a sick person’s cough. Its transmission is easier in crowded environments. Outbreaks especially occur in the winter months, so we must pay attention to mask use. An adult patient can transmit the flu virus to those around them from one day before symptoms begin until 3-5 days after symptoms start. In children, this period may extend up to 7 days.”

Highlighting flu symptoms, Dr. Ramazan Kenan Arıcan said: “Flu begins suddenly after an incubation period of 1-2 days. Common symptoms include fever (38-41°C), headache, fatigue, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose, and muscle aches. Fever usually lasts 3-5 days. Fatigue and weakness may last longer, but in healthy individuals, flu symptoms last about a week. In people with underlying illnesses, immune deficiencies, young children, and the elderly, life-threatening complications may develop.”
