In our country, within the framework of October 1-7 Breastfeeding Week events, information is provided about the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding. Denizli Private Egekent Hospital Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Yavuz Selim Güler also gave warnings to mothers on the occasion of Breastfeeding Week.
Stating that breast milk is the most natural, affordable, and ideal source of nutrition that contains the nutritional value babies need up to the first 6 months, Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Yavuz Selim Güler also emphasized the protective importance of breast milk, saying: “Thanks to the protective substances in breast milk, it protects the baby from diarrhea and respiratory diseases. It has also been observed that babies fed with breast milk are more resistant to asthma, allergies, and childhood diabetes.”
Pointing out that breast milk protects the baby against problems that may arise from nutrition, Dr. Güler emphasized that babies who are breastfed experience less diaper rash, abdominal pain, digestive problems, and constipation.
The most effective communication method with your baby
Stating that breastfeeding should not be considered only as nutrition, Egekent Hospital Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Yavuz Selim Güler gave the following advice to mothers:
“The emotional bond between mother and baby is one of the most effective factors in the baby’s development. The best way to establish this emotional bond is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding not only nourishes the baby physically but also enhances their mental and emotional development.”
Emphasizing that breast milk alone is sufficient nutrition for the baby during the first 6 months, Dr. Yavuz Selim Güler said, “We recommend that mothers breastfeed their babies exclusively with breast milk for the first 6 months, and then, accompanied by appropriate complementary foods, continue breastfeeding for at least up to one year.”
