Dr. Ahmet Levent Akpınar said, “We condemn all kinds of attacks against our doctors and other healthcare workers. We doctors practice our profession with great passion and devotion.”
Denizli Private Egekent Hospital organized a memorial ceremony in front of the hospital for Cardiologist Dr. Emre Karakaya, who was killed while on duty at Konya City Hospital by a security officer working at another hospital. The ceremony was attended by Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan, the entire hospital administration, doctors, and staff.
During his speech at the ceremony, Denizli Private Egekent Hospital Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Ahmet Levent Akpınar said, “Yesterday in Konya, Cardiologist Dr. Ekrem Karakaya was brutally murdered. We are deeply saddened. Don’t you know how many years it takes to train a cardiologist, how hard they work under difficult conditions, and how they cannot go home because of countless night shifts? Nowadays, attacking and beating doctors has become commonplace. We condemn all kinds of attacks against our doctors and other healthcare workers. We demand immediate deterrent legal regulations. I wish God’s mercy upon my late colleague. I offer my condolences to his devastated family. I call out to all our citizens: we doctors perform our profession with great love and devotion. But as these acts of violence continue, we are concerned about being unable to fulfill our duties.”
“Condolences to all of us”
Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan, who attended the ceremony, emphasized that they always stand by healthcare workers. Doğan said, “We see too many verbal, physical, and even fatal attacks. In fact, when you look at the country in general, I believe such attacks have increased against women, animals, and nature as well. We all know very well how long it takes to train a doctor, the difficulties families go through to educate them, and how selflessly our healthcare workers serve. I extend my condolences to the families of both of our colleagues who passed away yesterday. As Merkezefendi Municipality and as Şeniz Doğan, we stand with our healthcare community. Condolences to all of us,” she said.
