Denizli Private Egekent Hospital continues its breast and prostate cancer awareness programs

In a seminar organized in cooperation with Denizli Private Egekent Hospital and Merkezefendi Municipality, citizens were informed about ‘breast and prostate cancer.’

At the seminar held at Merkezefendi Municipality 1200 Evler Active Life Center, Egekent Hospital Medical Oncology Specialist Dr. Nail Özhan provided general information about breast and prostate cancer and warned participants about important issues to consider. Dr. Özhan addressed questions from the public about the age ranges, causes, and symptoms of breast and prostate cancer.

Pay attention to these ages

Within the framework of the “Right Information for a Healthy Life” project, Dr. Nail Özhan emphasized that the age of breast cancer occurrence has decreased significantly in recent years, stating, “While age 45 is common for breast cancer, we can say that the peak incidence is between 55-74 years.” Speaking about prostate cancer, Dr. Özhan noted, “Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men. Studies estimate that 1 in 8 men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime. The onset age for prostate cancer is typically in the 50s, with the highest occurrence between ages 65-75.”

Cancer screenings should not be neglected

Highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, Medical Oncology Specialist Dr. Nail Özhan stressed that screenings should not be neglected. Explaining the recommended screening intervals for breast and prostate cancer, Dr. Özhan said, “For early detection of breast cancer, women over 40 should perform monthly self-exams to check for abnormal changes in their breasts, see a doctor once a year, and have a mammogram every 2 years. For prostate cancer, men with a family history should start annual screenings at age 40, and those without at age 50. This includes measuring Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels with a simple blood test and a rectal examination performed by a urologist.”

Dr. Özhan also spoke about advances in cancer treatments, noting that treatment is no longer limited to chemotherapy and can now include targeted therapies, smart pills, and immunotherapies, offering more effective and comfortable options. Following the seminar, Dr. Özhan answered participants’ questions. The event concluded with the presentation of flowers to Dr. Özhan and a group photo.
