Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a subspecialty of internal medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, gallbladder and pancreas.

In our department, digestive complaints are assessed in detail and an appropriate programme of investigations is planned for each patient.

Digestive System Conditions

Reflux, gastritis, ulcers, gallbladder disease, liver disease and bowel conditions are among the problems most frequently assessed in the gastroenterology department.

Whether further investigation is needed is decided in the light of the patient's complaints and examination findings.

Endoscopic Diagnostic Methods

Endoscopic methods such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy are among the investigations most often used in diagnosing digestive system conditions.

These procedures allow the area concerned to be examined closely and, where necessary, a tissue sample to be taken.

Common Digestive Complaints

Some of the complaints most frequently seen in the gastroenterology clinic are:

  • Abdominal pain and bloating
  • Heartburn and reflux
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Loss of appetite and changes in weight
