Anaesthesiology and Reanimation is the medical discipline that enables patients to undergo surgical procedures without pain and under safe conditions. Our department covers a broad process, from the pre-operative assessment to anaesthesia management during surgery, post-operative monitoring and, where needed, intensive care support.
Working closely with the surgical team, our anaesthetists continuously monitor the patient's vital signs throughout the operation. This monitoring allows potential risks to be recognised early and, if necessary, addressed quickly.
Types of Anaesthesia
Depending on the type of operation, the patient's general health and their preference, the doctor decides between general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and local anaesthesia.
Under general anaesthesia the patient remains unconscious throughout the procedure, while under regional anaesthesia a specific area of the body is numbed and the patient can stay awake. The anaesthetist decides which method is appropriate by considering the patient's history together with the planned procedure.
Pre-operative Assessment
Every patient is assessed by an anaesthetist before the planned procedure. This assessment covers chronic conditions, current medication, allergies and any previous experience of anaesthesia.
Any necessary laboratory tests are requested so that the anaesthesia process can be planned safely. It is important for patients to give their doctors complete health information before surgery, as this makes the process safer.
Reanimation and Intensive Care Support
Reanimation covers intensive care services in which patients whose vital functions are at risk are closely monitored and supported. Patients who need close follow-up after surgery, as well as those admitted with severe trauma, respiratory or circulatory failure, are monitored under intensive care conditions by a specialist team.
During intensive care the patient's condition is assessed at regular intervals and the treatment plan is updated when necessary. Relatives are kept informed about the process on a regular basis.
